Ford Model T

Ford motor company of Detroit, Michigan built the model T from 1908 to 1927.  Production of the Ford Model T began in the third quarter of 1908, it was one of the earliest efforts to build an affordable vehicle to open travel to middle-class Americans.  The Model T was Ford’s first automobile to be mass-produced on a moving assembly line. The assembly line allowed the price to be lowered from around $900.00 in 1908 to less than $300.00 in 1925.

Inexpensive transportation on a massive scale

The model T’s success came from providing inexpensive transportation on a massive scale. This pushed the Model T to comprise as much as 40 percent of all cars sold in the United  States, over 16.5 million Ford Model T’s were sold. The Model T stands eighth on the list of most sold cars of all time and in 1999 the Ford Model T was named the most influential car of the 20th century.

Henry Ford

Henry Ford said of the vehicle  – I will build a motor car for the great multitude. It will be large enough for the family but small enough for the individual to run and care for. It will be constructed of the best materials, by the best men to be hired, after the simplest designs that modern engineering can devise and i t will be so low in price that no man making a good salary will be unable to own one – and enjoy with his family the blessing of hours of pleasure in God’s great open spaces.
